Release date : July 2014
The DK2 is the second version of the Oculus Rift for developers.
Introduced on May 19th during the GDC 2014, the headset is equipped of an OLED 960 × 1080p per eye screen, so a resolution of 1920 × 1080 px for the screen.
About the refreshing, it has a rate that can go up to 75 Hz (the three mentioned frequencoes are 75Hz, 72Hz and 60Hz).
New: this screen handles the low image persistency (picture above). It goes down to 2ms.
To go with the screen, lenses especially made for the DK2 allow a nominal FOV of 100°. According to the conference, depending on the “eye relief” of the user, it can go from 90° to 110° (so about 10° to 20° more than the DK1 which was theorically 110° but was in fact closer to 85°).
Something also highly awaited, the positional tracking is quite similar to the one introduced with the Crystal Cove with a non negligeable difference: the LED that appeared on the Crystal Cove are now under the plastic and the camera that handles the positional tracking detects them via an infrared system. The tracking system is of course still supported by the internal tracking of the headset (gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer ). So it's a fact, the DevKit 2 will detect rotation movement as well as translation of the head.
